Shout Analysis

In-Depth Shout Analysis

After deciding that I would be using Sugar magazine to write my article in, then a further analysis would be needed to ensure that each aspect of the magazine is covered within the article. As the article would be able an upcoming the leading female actress in a new Disney movie and the actress being able to decide where she would be interested in  taking the role depending on the traditional representation of women. Therefore depending on the plot of the story and if they agree on the traditional representation of women.

The image on the left is shown as 'Figure 1'.

From figure 1 you can see that the 'shout' magazine is simple in some terms by the way that all titles of articles within and to either side of the main attraction which is the star of Disney Miley Cyrus. There is also simplicity within the colour scheme being white, black, pink and purple, the opposites of each other; White and Black along with Pink and Purple being the most popular colours for females. This just reflects the target audiences age from being a younger age range from 12-16.
The image of Miley Cyrus is central as you can see from where the stars head is directly in-between the 'o' of 'shout'. The way that her head covers the 'o' shows that the company are well known by their target audience as they can cover up certain letters of the title and the readers would still recognise the magazine. the image is also very pure and simple. Its pure due to the fact that it hasn't been sexualised in any way, the star is also smiling and showing her teeth which again represents the idea of a pure image. The long hair also indicates that she is a young women that is keen to keep a pure image by having the long hair that stereotypical every young girl wants. From the positioning of Miley shows that she is in a natural stance and not trying to 'pose' for the cameras as she is at that age and stage in her actress carer that she is still sweet and innocent. From what she is wearing a baby pink dress once again supporting the target audience from the colour worn, the dress isn't sexualised in any way, the way the dress has additional wraps across the dress is to ensure that the dress isn't tight fitting and isn't just worn for the purpose of it being tight, providing a 'good role model' for the target audiences and for their parents to allow them to buy this magazine.
In the bottom right corner you can see the way that they are making the idea of a free give away 'WIN! GOLD-PLATED ghds' with the small 'OMG!' above is used to entice people into buying the magazines as these ghds are expensive for young females to own. This is the only image that isn't located on the same colour background of the grey and is located on a white background with the text being in different coloured bubbles such as; purple, pink and black. This is to attract immediate attention  to these items that could be won. These pink and purple bubbles are also located around the other text to ensure that people read that sub-heading first to once again attract the readers eyes to that text. The sub-headings use a range of different texts styles to attract the audience such as; bold text, different coloured text, different font and different sizes. All of these are used to ensure that the reader keeps interest in the front cover instead of losing interest and looking else were. All these techniques are only  used on the front cover as that is what the first thing people see, they are located over the side of Miley's arm but not blocking any of her face/head out to ensure that this is what the reader focuses on so that they can see the purity of Miley along with the different gossip articles located inside.
The name of the company 'Shout' use a very clear font and change the colour of the title depending on the front cover colour theme. This shows that the company are well known by its target audience as they have the ability to change the colour. Underneath the title there is 'it's all about you!' making the reader aware that within this magazine is everything they would want to read, by having this slogan it creates more hype and question about what it inside leading to the reading of the side headings.
The image on the left would be referred to as Figure 2.

This is another shout magazine that has been released with yet another Disney star on the front cover. Selena Gomez also stared on the Disney Channel from a young age in the Wizards Of Waverly Place that was on the TV for 5 years creating a lot of publicity for the star. The star was also in a 'Another Cinderella Story' in 2008 which is another remake from the original in 1950 released by Walt Disney.

The magazine once again is laid out in a similar way but has different features within the front cover. The image itself is once again not sexualised, yet the actress is 'posing' for the camera and is directly looking at the camera with a pout. The clothes she is wearing are different to Figure 1. Selena is wearing a blazer with a vest top underneath with shorts, whereas Miley was in a pink girlie dress. The blazer is used to keep the star looking smart and to add some class to the image with the Disney themed top of a popular Donald Duck. The fact that her shorts are also at a longer length then normal would also indicate that the model is not being sexualised by the company.
The background colour is extremely similar once again but is a different shade meaning that they are trying to keep the same back ground colour throughout the different issues of the magazine. This is still a dull grey colour indicating that the images are taken in a studio, the teenagers head isn't central of the magazine like figure one is, yet the image is still the main attraction of the front cover. This issue of the magazine uses different colours and different fonts within the sub-heading to keep the readers engaged with the front cover and the articles that are inside. The colour of 'shout' is different itself along with the slogan of 'it's all about you!' and the website link located above the 'S'. However all these three items are located in the exact same place and the exact same font sizing, to ensure that the reader can still recognise and identify  the magazine and continue to be a regular reader of this magazine.
The main difference from figure one and figure two, is the font of the sub-headings, the different colour scheme and the layout of sub-headings. The colour scheme has changed due to what the model if wearing; in figure two the colours are red, white and black matching the sub-headings whereas in figure one the colours are; white, black, pink and purple with the star wearing a pale pink dress. Therefore by using a range of different colours that match with what the model on the front page is wearing allows the different colours to be used to keep the readers attention without creating a colour clash. The sub-headings have moved into different places yet are still equal on each side of the page in both figure one and two. The image on the bottom left in figure one was moved to the bottom right in figure two yet is still kept in the same circular shape and advertising the freebies that could be won by buying this magazine. The barcode has also moves further down the sub-headings yet is still on the right hand side at the same size.

Overall you can see a range of difference within these two front covers, yet they are very similar in the way that they have been laid out and used. This would maintain an image for the read to identify with when buying the magazine but would also keep the reader engaged from issue to issue by having these differences.
