Inside Analysis of Shout

Inside analysis of Shout

Inside the magazine itself there are different styles in how they introduce or write up an article later to be reviewed by the readers. The most common way to layout a maagzine is to have the main front page story ranging from page 3-10 which is followed by many other magazines such as Heat and OK.

I looked at the online version of the shout magazine which would only have a few pages inside to ensure that people cant read all the articles but get a taste of the magazine and would like to then purchase the magazine and read it. The example I found was on Union J a new boy band from X-factor and their 'column' within the magazine implying that the band had been interviewed before within the magazine therefore keeping the readers attention by bringing different information and inside information from the boy band and their personal lives including any gossip.
From the image located on the left (figure three) you can see the article written about the boy band. The first thing on this article that would catch any attention from the reader would be the strip across the top in yellow standing out from the background of the image and how they 'EXCLUSIVE' to shout making the reader feel excited about the gossip they are about to read about the boy band that other people wouldn't be able to read in other magazine therefore also creating a loyalty to this magazine and they are supplying more gossip.  This is also created by the '100% OFFICIAL' and '100% BRILLIANT' creating the anticipation from the reader to begin reading this article as it will meet all their needs of the latest fix from the young group of boys. Another way that Shout have created this anticipation and excitement for the reader is by putting in 'the last ever' meaning that it will have to be extremely interesting and juicy for the young females to apply to their male gaze that they would have over these males. However the difference with this article is that it is on page 14, which is much further down the magazine then stereotypically expected by the readers never-the-less this could be used to ensure that other articles are read between the front cover and page 14.
The layout of this article is very simple mainly for the target audience to focus on either the image or the text that is written next to it. The image is taking 1/2 of the page therefore implying that the key way to keep this target audience engaged is by having a large image and same quick answers for the audience to keep engaged with the article without losing interest in a large block of text. The image is a simple outdoor long shot to ensure that all the boys fashion sense is captured to appeal to the male gaze of the female readers, the boys themselves are dressed casually showing everyday life and trying to connect to their readers by showing that they are just normal human begins. One of the male is showing off this tattoo on his arm and showing it directly to the camera by having his arm at that angle, this would also be for the benefit of the female readers to almost become 'sexy' as younger females would like this typical 'older bad boy' look that he is portraying. The text itself has different colours throughout the article. Mainly used to keep the questions and answers separate on the page to allow the readers to quickly distinguish the different questions and who is answering them by using different colour for each different boys name. This article in particular is all about the boy bands love life. The first question is about their first kiss which would immediately appeal to the female audience as that is something that a female would stereotypically remember for the rest of their lives no matter what age. The questions range from being a good boyfriend to what they find mysterious about girls which one again would appeal to all the females that like this band straight away. By using these different range of open questions throughout the interview keeps the answer short and snappy while appealing to a female audience straight away from the stereotype of females enjoying romance and how males remember certain details about their love life. For example: their first kiss and where they went on their first date etc.

Overall for the Shout article that I will be writing the format will be a similar question and answer article to keep the readers interested without having to read a large chunk of text with the same gossip in. However one difference will be that my article would be on an actress coming up out of the typical Disney channel and moving onto different Disney films and how they portray the different female roles.
